Frets on Fire gives you the ability to play Guitar Hero on the PC! What more is there to say?

Game Play

Frets on Fire is an arcade tap-fest with a musical background. It is a complete copy of Guitar Hero game play wise; however, it has one distinguishing feature: it's for the PC, which means it's for those of you who do not own a console and it's our time to shine!

Although I'm sure most of you have played Guitar Hero, I will break down the game play for those of you who haven't. The game play consists of tapping the right note at the right time as they fall to the bottom of the screen on a never ending guitar neck. The notes follow the notes of the song, and if you miss an annoying sound is played. The overall purpose is to play the song as best you can, while accumulating as many points as you can.

At first glance the game play may seem incredibly stupid, simple, and pretty easy, but like everything that's good in life, it is, which makes it incredibly fun!

I'm not going to discuss the song list, but the bottom line is that when a great song hits, you're going to rock the house down and have an incredible time playing.

One of the great features the game has is the ability to import songs from Guitar Hero I, II, Rocks the 80s, and III songs.

Immersion

As I've said, the game is incredibly fun. It doesn't have all the flash of Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but when I'm playing, I don't really care that much, and why should I?

Conclusion

Frets on Fire might not be up to the
standards of those big commercial music games, and it might not have all the instruments, but it's a worthy mention and deserves an 8 out of 10 just for the following points:
* Being for the PC
* It's FREE
* Can play your favorite songs
* And it's fun!

The game thrives on something that has long been lost from commercial games, and that is the imagination. Of course you're just fingering your keyboard in the illusion that your Dave Mustaine or Rudolf Schenker, but you don't care because you're having fun.
