Review
I believe this game is one of the greatest games I have played. Infinity Ward truly delivers an intense action packed experience in this truly amazing game.
The first Call of Duty game foreshadowed what was to come and provided an overall engrossing and immersing experience. However, Infinity Ward decided that a sequel was due and decided not to copy the first game's success but built upon it.
Game Play
Game play in Call of Duty 2 is fairly straight-forward, you can aim, shoot, crouch, prone, etc.; however, this game brings in new detail, the ability to hold your breath while being in sniper mode, thus providing 100% accuracy.
Although simple, the controls are highly useful and they allow for quick change of weapons, quick throwing of grenades and such which makes everything come natural and not overbearing.
The battlefield conditions are simulated in a realistic way. Players will not be able to just run & gun, they will need to deploy smoke, take cover, use trenches, clear out bunkers, and will need to act quickly.
Storyline
The game doesn't have a story per se, it's just a retelling of history; however, the way it's told is beautiful. While the mission is loading you are able to read an entry in a journal of your current character, which foretells the task at hand and objectives are given from your officer.
There are three campaigns: the Soviets, the British, and the Americans, with the invasion of Normandy.
I would compare the game to the movie Saving Private Ryan because after watching the movie I was able to see the same consistency, and not because it was based on World War II, but because of the way it was presented.
Immersion
From the sounds, the stunning visuals, the level design, and the details, everything about this game will draw you in.
I like that you are not able to see and hear during certain parts of the game, for instance, when a grenade goes of next to you it becomes difficult to hear anything.
This game doesn't rely on violence alone to depict war, but makes you into a new recruit, gives you a rifle and tells you "Right, then go on."
Conclusion
Nothing can beat this game. I give it a flat-out 10/10 for its sheer perfection. If this game had flaws, I would've pointed them out, but I'm very pleased with how great it is.
What more can I say?...
