Today we will review Football Manager 2009, the fifth installment of the very popular Football Manager series.

With a somewhat buggy performance with the same features as it's predecessors, I give it a 7 out of 10.

Released on November 14 2008, there became another addition to the popular football game from Sports Interactive.

The Football Manager series has dominated the genre, sports management, with a new installment every season. The series revolutionized the genre with it's depth, it's addictive game play, and accurate incarnations of the happenings of the football management in real life.

Perhaps the most significant addition to this year's installment is the ambitious 3D Engine in addition to the usual "Billiard" balls mode which is my personal favorite. The 3D as ambitious as it is falls short due to the lackluster rendering of the players and although the player movement is decent it comes a cross like a 5 year old child trying to animate. TV mode, a feature, is a nice addition as it gives you full view on the happenings in the game with the ability to view all the information from your assistant manager, and the tactics of your team. of course its just the beginning and its interesting to see how the 3D engine will evolve in the next installments of the series. Football Manger Live players may notice the addition of the time bar which enables you to scroll back on any minute of the game, and also allows you to check the goals of the match again.

The Football Manager series produced an excellent match engine which came across very well since the start of the series. As the series progressed so did the engine, now it is more realistic and may surprise you with new moves on the virtual pitch with every game you play.

Football Manager 2009 may be the first game that can help newer players get used to the highly tactical intake of the game play with the improved importance of the assistant manager. You can now know the changes your opponent makes and its effect on the game and your team by checking your assistant for advice and working on it. This feature works as a portal in getting to know the game more. While on the subject of staff, FM09 also emphasizes the role of the scouts who now give you more detailed information about potential signings.

Another feature is the press conferences, which gets old after a few games because of the limited amount of questions in the database. It is a brave attempt but falls short.

By the end, Football Manager maintains the same game play that we all have come to love and it still is as addictive as ever, but it feels like Sports Interactive rushed things this time.

7/10
